Boundaries are some of the most self-loving and trans formative practices you can do for yourself because they naturally shift energy away from the behaviors, dynamics, relationships, and situations that deplete and distract you. 

The more you honor who you are and what you need, the more your life will reflect those priorities and values. 

May 2019 be the year you listen to your heart, follow your intuition, take your power back, stop apologizing for who you are, and trust yourself completely. 
Set your boundaries and commit to a year of more self-love than ever before. ✌️❤️

Empath's Holiday Survival Quick Guide: 5 Strategies to Manage Your Sensitivities

For an empath to fully enjoy the holiday season, it is extremely beneficial to learn how to protect, clear, and manage their energetic sensitivities.

I have been an empath my entire life, but it took me until my 20’s to fully understand the depth of this sensitivity.  Throughout my childhood and into adulthood, I have often felt alone and misunderstood as I tried to navigate my way through this world feeling things that everyone else seemed oblivious to.

Empaths are people who are able to deeply feel the emotions and energy of other people and places (also, possibly: animals, the earth, and a host of other things too, but that’s for another post). Everything has its own vibrational signature, and empaths are people who are able to ‘read’ this signature by feeling it within themselves.

This ability is a gift. It gives you deeper insight into the people and places around you, making you an effective healer and skilled intuitive, but it also comes with its challenges, such as: fatigue, overwhelm, confusion, anxiety, sleeplessness, and a feeling of being ‘weighed down’, to name a few.

With the holidays coming up, I thought it was the perfect time to share some tips with you to help my fellow empaths navigate the increase of social activity and crowded public spaces. For many of us, it’s not that we don’t want to socialize, it’s just that it can be too overwhelming and draining when we’re feeling everyone and everything around us.

1.       Pull Your Aura In – You have a beautiful field of energy that surrounds your body. Science calls it our biofield. Your energy field naturally picks up information from other people’s auras who are nearby. By pulling your aura in, you’re creating a more tightly-held and grounded container that is less likely to intermingle with the energy around you, helping you feel much more calm, relaxed, and in control. The bigger your energy field, the more energy you will be taking on, which is the opposite of what an empath wants. Make it a practice to pull your aura in and keep it close. To pull your aura in, close your eyes and intuitively sense where the outer edge of your aura is (don’t worry about getting this right or wrong, it’s not important), then imagine pulling your aura in towards your body. Intention is everything here, just intend to pull your aura in and it will work. Experiment with a size that feels best to you. Some people like pulling it all the way into their body, while others keep it a couple inches outside their body. You can also add in visualization here by imagining your whole aura glowing in your favorite color. For some people, this color gives an extra buffer of protection.

2.       Stay Grounded – I was grocery shopping the other day and the store was extremely crowded. I pulled my aura in and then brought my awareness down through my legs, into my feet, and into the ground. It immediately helped me feel grounded and less affected by the busyness of the people around me. I was also able to stay focused on my list and get my errands done without much distraction, which can be a challenge sometimes if I’m not grounded. Again, intention is everything. By using your awareness to ground down and connect with your feet, the floor, and the earth below, you will stay grounded.  (Fun Fact: Why is intention everything? Because where intention goes, energy flows. Your intention literally guides the energy to do what you want it to do.)

3.       Back to the Basics: Eat enough, drink enough, and sleep enough  – Before empaths head into a potentially overwhelming gathering or public space, it’s very helpful to have eaten (protein is especially grounding), had plenty of water, and be well rested. Hunger, dehydration, and fatigue make an already sensitive person, more sensitive and energetically weak. Excessive alcohol can also create energetic weakness, causing an empath to become more susceptible to taking on the energy of the people around them. Take care of yourself, and you’ll feel much more capable of handling whatever comes your way.

4.        Clear Your Energy Field – When my schedule gets full and I’m running from place to place, I do this in my car to help bring me back to center, release energy that isn’t mine, and to prepare for my next agenda item. Bring your awareness onto your breath, and if its comfortable, begin to deepen and lengthen each inhale and exhale. With each exhale, intend that you are letting go and releasing all energy that isn’t yours. Do this for a few minutes giving yourself the opportunity to fully clear it all away. This is also helpful do to before bed to release the energy of the day.

5.       Know Your Limits & Boundaries – Stay keenly aware of how you’re feeling, what you need, and adjust accordingly. This past summer, I was in a wedding and about midday began to feel really overwhelmed. There was about a 30-minute pocket of time between the ceremony and dinner, so I found an empty room to put my feet up, close my eyes, and relax. I’ve also done similar things like this in the bathroom at parties. I sneak away for a little bit, and then I’m able to come back out and socialize without feeling like I’m going to start breaking down. Remember: Boundaries are self-loving and self-sustaining. You are not required to sacrifice your well being in order to make others happy. Saying No is okay. Leaving early is okay. Protecting your energy and staying completely away from certain people and situations is okay. You know what you need. Trust it.

With practice the effectiveness of these techniques will strengthen over time. You do not need to be at the mercy of the energy around you. You can become an empowered empath who feels deeply without carrying, embodying, and feeling responsible for the condition of the people and places around you. The #1 Myth About Intuition

I hear it all the time and it’s so far from the truth that I’m ready to bust this myth into smithereens.

The #1 myth about your intuition is that it’s difficult to hear.

It’s time to release that belief. Your intuition is not difficult to hear. Your intuition is your most natural and innate form of communication. It is the voice of your soul, the truth in your heart, and wisdom of your body. It’s been with you since before you were born. It’s been communicating with you your entire life. It can never leave you, and it will never stop guiding you. To believe that it’s difficult, is to separate yourself from the very core of your existence.

But, let’s be real…

Sometimes it really does feel difficult!

Here are a few things that happen:

1.       You’ve been ignoring your intuition and not acknowledging the guidance it gives you.

 Each time you ignore your intuition you’re sending the message that it’s not important, needed, or necessary. Over time, this avoidance causes your inner voice to get really quiet, hidden, and small.

The Remedy: Set the intention that it is easy to hear your intuition. Affirm to yourself that your intuition will get louder, clearer, and more accurate every single day.

And then, every time you hear it, fully commit to following through with the guidance you receive. Do this every single day, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly it will come back to you.


2.       You trust other people’s ideas and opinions more than you trust yourself.

Self-doubt is a sure-fire way to silence your intuition. Every time you place your trust outside of yourself, you give your power away and weaken the strength of your own inner compass. It’s absolutely ok, and often very beneficial, to receive insight and guidance from trusted family members, friends, therapists, and other supportive people in your life, but when it comes down to your true purpose, passion, and potential, your inner guide needs to be your number one resource. No one knows you better than yourself. No one knows the exact depth of the call you feel in your heart. No one else knows exactly how much your passion lights you up. No one knows exactly the way your soul is guiding you – only you do. But you’ll never fully align with this wisdom if you keep thinking the answers to your life are ‘out there’ instead of ‘in here’.


The Remedy: Start trusting yourself again. There aren’t any short-cuts on this. You just have to decide you’re going to do it. Over time you will begin to see that your intuition is worthy of your trust. You’ll learn first-hand the power of living in alignment with your inner voice, but it can’t prove it to you until you take the leap.

 From now on when you get advice from someone else, take it with a grain of salt. Hear it out, but always measure it up against your own inner guide to see if it resonates with your truth. Eventually, you’ll begin to weed out the untruths passed down to you from others, while clearly grounding into who you really are and what matters to you most.

Learning to fully trust yourself again can take some time, so don’t be too hard on yourself through this process. The more you continue to trust your intuition, the quieter your self-doubt will become.

3.       You’ve been living in a state of overwhelm

When your stress level is high, tension takes over and pollutes your intuitive clarity. It’s difficult for your soul to effectively communicate to you through layers of mental clutter, never-ending to-do lists, overpacked schedules, unresolved emotions, and high levels of cortisol streaming through your system.

The Remedy: Regularly take time to slow down, breathe, and relax. Yoga and meditation are great tools for amping up your inner voice. Both of these practices help slow down your brainwaves and relax your body, giving your soul the opportunity to resurface.  You can also try adding in more quiet, soothing activities, such as: taking a walk outside without headphones, turn off the music in your car while you’re driving, turn off the background noise of the TV, or soak in a warm bath without a book or device. These are simple everyday ways you can begin to intentionally clear out external stimuli and clutter to create the space for your soul to speak.

As I share this last piece of advice, I can’t help but feel excited and hopeful for you. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you begin to hear your intuition when you simply begin to slow down and create the space for it to do so, because like I have been saying: your intuition is not difficult to hear. It’s right here beneath the surface of your everyday busyness. All it needs is a little space to surface to help guide you on your way.

The next time you begin to feel like your intuition is difficult to hear, give these three remedies a solid effort for at least a week. I have no doubt that you’ll begin to realize how easily your inner voice perks right back up giving you the clarity, insight, and guidance you need to confidently navigate the path ahead.

Take a Deep Breath in, Let it out, and Trust Yourself.

Like any couple with two young children, my husband and I were fantasizing about spending our eighth anniversary away from home overnight somewhere kid-free. “Oh, the sleep we could get!” we thought, but every time we started to make our plans, I kept feeling this voice inside tell me that we were not supposed to go anywhere, that we needed to stay home.

So, we listened.

Sure enough, that weekend, the weekend we would have been out of town, we woke up to our basement flooded from a recent rainstorm.


This past winter I was invited to go on a tropical vacation to an island in the Caribbean. Both my husband and mom were encouraging me to go. I mean, who passes up a tropical vacation in the dead of Minnesota winter?! A crazy person, that’s who. A crazy person whose intuition was saying loud and clear, “Do Not Go.” I’m so glad I listened, because the week I would have been out of the country, my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. If I had gone, I wouldn’t have been home with my husband on one of the most difficult days of his life.


My whole plan since I was in 7th grade, was to be a psychologist. I went to every career day focused on counseling, social work, and psychology. I took every psychology class in high school, including AP psych (aced it), and then went on to be the psychology teacher’s class assistant. I was a nerd for the stuff! So of course, I went to college to pursue my dream.

During my senior year of college, I began finalizing graduate school plans. Every single time I sat down to look at my options and explore the application process, I felt this gut instinct that I wasn’t supposed to pursue it. I ignored this feeling for a while. It didn’t make sense to me. Going to grad school had always been the plan. If I didn’t go, then what?

Eventually, the voice inside of me got so strong and determined to steer me away from that direction, that I had to listen. I remember the moment vividly. I remember feeling an internal release of tension, like my soul was saying, “finally…she’s listening.” I literally had no idea what the next step was going to be, I just knew grad school wasn’t an option any more. This was not an easy time. I felt very lost and unsure. My whole life plan suddenly wasn’t available to me for a reason beyond any logical understanding at the time.

About nine months after graduation, my life started to drastically change. By what I can only describe as God’s hand, I was guided into energy healing, spirituality, and intuition development. I was an atheist at the time. I didn’t believe in anything beyond this physical experience, so having first-hand encounters with spirit and universal life force energy really threw me for a loop. My heart and soul were celebrating but my mind took a little longer to grasp the beauty, healing, and truth of the unseen.

Here I am over ten years later doing the work that I was born to do. I wouldn’t have found the way if I let my intellect do all the decision making. My heart and soul knew the plan all along, all I had to do was listen and trust the still, small voice within.


I’m sharing these examples with you today because I want to drive home a really important point about your intuition: Your Intuition doesn’t always make sense in the moment, but your intuition always makes sense later.

So often it is thought that in order to trust your inner voice, you need to know the whole picture, you need to know why you’re guided in a certain direction, but that is rarely the case.

Following your intuition is not the logical, linear, clearly-defined path our mind perceives as predictable and safe. Spirit doesn’t work that way. Following your intuition is often unconventional, creative, and surprising requiring you to trust and have faith in a wisdom beyond your full understanding.

I’ve learned first-hand time and time again, that there’s a loving, all-knowing force that has your best interest at heart. It guides you towards growth, healing, purpose, and possibility. I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t be as happy and fulfilled as I am today if I hadn’t listened to my soul steer me where to go.

I want that for you, too. I want you to fully experience a relationship your intuition, so you can see its magic play out in your life. The best part of this, is that there aren’t any special tools or products needed. It’s free and with you all the time. All that is required from you is courage and faith, and I know you can do that.

Just for today, ditch the doubt and the desire for it to all make sense. You were born with the map of your life within you. Your heart and intuition hold the directions for this map. Take a deep breath in, let it out, and trust yourself.

5 Ways to Increase Your Reiki Energy

For some practitioners, Reiki energy is strong, powerful, clear, and apparent. They feel it right away and experience a natural connection with it. For others, it can take some time to establish an authentic relationship with the energy that feels effective and meaningful.

Whether you already feel a clear connection with Reiki, or feel like you need a boost, here are five ways to help you strengthen and deepen your energy healing work:

1)      Set your Intention for Reiki to work through you more clearly and effectively. Remember that your intention is everything when it comes to working with Reiki. I often add my intention into my prayer before I begin a session, stating that I wish to be a powerful and clear channel for my client’s highest good. Create your own affirmations, intentions, and prayers that feel authentic to you and use them often. Your intention for Reiki to become stronger, clearer, and more effective will surely help it happen.

2)      Meditate with Reiki. I have personally found this to be one of the most powerful ways to increase my connection with Reiki. When I sit down for meditation, I invite Reiki into my practice. I have experienced deeper states of relaxation, spontaneous healing, and have learned more about the nature of Reiki by observing how it works with me. If you are Reiki level 2 or higher, use this time to invite the energies of the healing symbols into your practice. You can sit inside each symbol allowing yourself to be completely surrounded by a bubble of healing light or try placing the symbols into chakras for a deeper healing experience. You can get creative with this, so have fun, and let yourself be guided by Reiki throughout the meditation. It’s truly one of my favorite things to do!

3)      Use it! You know the saying, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”? That’s not entirely true for Reiki since once you’re attuned you have it for the rest of your life, but the more you use it, the more your relationship with the energy will strengthen. As your relationship strengthens, the Reiki energy will continue to increase and add benefit to your life. Keep in mind that you might need to keep practicing and using it for awhile before you find your unique connection to it. Dedicate time for self-treatments, offer sessions to others (friends, family members, pets), distant healing, space clearing, and so on. If you don't feel anything happening right away, my biggest suggestion is: don't give up.  Give yourself time to learn this new technique and healing practice. Reiki works with anyone and everyone.

4)      Surrender. Let go of any expectations you have on how Reiki should look, feel or perform. Notice if you have preconceived ideas of how you think it should work and let that go. The way Reiki works with one person might be different than how it works with another. Even with their differences, the variety of ways that Reiki works with each practitioner, are all equally beneficial. Remain open to the possibilities and let Reiki guide and teach you.

5)      Get a Reiki Treatment and/or another Attunement. Sometimes a good Reiki treatment or an additional attunement can be just what you need. When you get a Reiki treatment from another practitioner, the session can be helpful in ‘waking up’ or kickstarting your Reiki. The same goes for an attunement. You can reach out to your Reiki Master and they will likely be happy to offer you an additional attunement at little or no cost.

What is Distance Energy Healing and How Does it Work?

I’ve had an influx of distant healing sessions lately, along with many questions about how it works, and the experiences both myself and my clients have, so I thought I'd address some of the most common questions I receive:

What is distance energy healing and how does it work? A distance energy healing session is when a practitioner sends healing energy to a client with the intention to heal and support them in whatever way is best for them at that time. Often the client has a specific healing intention, such as physical or emotional pain that they’ve been struggling with, or sometimes they just need an energetic boost of support to help them get through a difficult phase in life. I’ve even had people request distant healing simply to help support them in relaxation, stress relief, and sleep. There are no parameters when it comes to energy healing. It can be used for anything, at any time, and anywhere. During a distant healing session, the client and practitioner do not need to be together in the same location. Reiki healing energy is transcendental connecting directly with pure consciousness that exists at our deepest level of existence. At this level of connection, time and distance are not a barrier.  We are alive because life force energy is flowing through us and around us. This life force energy can be connected with to assist in healing, happiness, and wellbeing. It is at this level that there is no separation, we are all one. All I need to do to send you healing energy is to intend to do so, and it works!

Do I need to be doing anything special during my session? It is always best to be in a quiet, undisturbed place for your session so that you can relax and be open to receive, but it’s not absolutely necessary, it’s just helpful. The most important thing is to have your intention set to receive the healing energy.

What does a session feel like? What can I expect? Everyone’s experience varies depending upon how sensitive they are to energy, what exactly is being healed, and what will be best for them that day. It’s important to remember that Reiki always works on behalf of your highest good, so even in-person sessions differ time to time depending on what’s needed. Most commonly, people report feeling warmth, waves of energy, pulsations, deep feelings of relaxation, peace, lightness, and clarity. A recent client described her session feeling like ball of energy was building in and around the area of need. Some people don’t feel much of anything and that’s ok too.

How long do distant sessions last? Typically, distant healing sessions are shorter than in-person sessions. They last anywhere from 30-45 minutes, sometimes a little longer, it just depends on the healing that needs to be done and how I’m guided throughout the session. Sessions are shorter than in-person because I am able to jump right in and begin healing immediately. There isn’t any small talk before or after, so I can get right to work. I have found that even though the time spent together isn’t as long, the healing is still just as effective.

What do you do during the session? What does it feel like for you? During our session, I am in a quiet, undisturbed place usually sitting on a meditation cushion with a notebook and pen by my side. I begin by saying a prayer and setting my intention, and then welcoming the healing energy to begin to flow through me. I write your name down on my piece of paper and might have a picture of you handy, too. Once I feel the energy flowing through me, I energetically connect with you by connecting with your higher self, scanning your aura, and then focusing in on the specific healing you requested, and any other areas of need that have been intuitively shown to me. I use second degree Reiki symbols, master symbols, and my intention for complete healing to direct, focus, and empower your session. I sit in this prayerful, meditative state channeling you healing for our entire session. During this time, I might be pulling unhealthy energy out of you, bringing healthy energy in, balancing chakras, cutting energetic chords, clearing your aura, or anything else that I’ve been guided to do. Every session is unique and personalized to the individual I’m working on.

On my end, it feels very calming and relaxing. I often feel the Reiki energy flowing through me and my hands get really hot. I tend to get images in my mind’s eye that assist in the healing. For example, today I was working on someone when all of a sudden I was able to see right into her hip joint and femur bone. I knew this was a sign for me to send healing there, so that is what I did. Sometimes, I receive a lot of intuitive information, and sometimes I don’t. While energy healing is not a psychic reading, I will share any helpful information that comes forward to help you on your healing journey. If you don’t get a lot of intuitive information from me, don’t worry, that doesn’t mean anything was wrong or that I didn’t do my job, it’s just that there wasn’t any additional information to convey that day.

When I am done with your session, I always email you a summary letting you know how long I worked on you, what types of healing techniques were done, areas the healing energy had me focus on, along with any other important information that came forward for you.

How much does a session cost? How do I book a session with you? I do not charge a specific rate for distant energy healing. I have a donation-based sliding fee scale. If you’d like a session, you can contact me letting me know what type of support you’re looking for. I take each request into consideration, but unfortunately, I’m not not able to book all of them.

The Importance of Choosing Your Reiki Master Teacher

  Ten Questions that will help you find the right teacher & training for you

Pursuing training in energy healing can be a very transformative and empowering experience for many people. It can be the key that unlocks lasting healing and awakening in body, mind and spirit. For some, it is completely life-changing and reality-rocking.

I started my journey into energy healing ten years ago with the Japanese hands-on-healing technique known as Reiki. I had never had an energy healing session prior to training, but something inside of me knew I was meant to pursue it. I signed up for Reiki I with an experienced teacher who had a wonderful reputation for healing and therapy in a variety of modalities. I arrived to class open-minded yet skeptical. I was new to all of this and wasn’t sure what to expect. By the end of my first day, I knew I was guided to the training for a reason. I had experienced a very deep healing during my attunement that began a gentle, yet powerful evolution of healing that is still guiding me today.

After that initial experience, my journey with Reiki became personal. I knew that I felt guided to keep healing, releasing, and growing, so I continued to show up for myself welcoming the energy to do its beautiful work on me. After about a year and a half, I had gone through all three levels of Reiki, and loved how it heightened and amplified my life. My intuition sky-rocketed, awareness expanded, and I felt connected, guided, and supported by a healing force of energy rooted in peace and love.

Once I got my bearings from all of the changes the healing was bringing into my life, I began to offer healing sessions to others. Working with other people gave me more opportunities to witness the loving, holistic, and wise way in which Reiki works. It gave me the experience to understand more about the power of energy healing and the potential it has for each of us personally, as well as, collectively.

As of today, I have been teaching for about six and a half years.  I can still remember the day I heard the nudge within to begin. It took me a little while to get behind the idea since I never thought of myself as a Reiki teacher, but of course as I look back and reflect, I see how divinely-guided this journey as been (and continues to be).  I often say I didn’t choose this path, it chose me. Reiki opened the door to both a universal healing energy that is available to all of us, and reconnected me with an innate and intuitive healing ability that was always within me.   

It's common to feel a yearning, knowing, or pull inside of you that leads you into this work. It’s an intuitive process, a journey guided by your soul, that is less about working on and ‘healing’ others, and more about healing yourself.

 I often tell my students that Reiki, also known as spiritually guided life force energy, along with your higher self, knows when you’re ready. When that time comes, energy healing will enter your awareness, pique your interest, and guide you to the right teacher and training meant for you.

Choosing your teacher is a pivotal step in your journey. Their approach, beliefs, attitude, ethics, and professionalism are highly influential to you and the integrity of this work. It’s important to do your research and learn from a teacher who you feel a resonance with. If you’re feeling guided to pursue energy healing work, I compiled ten questions to take into consideration before making your choice on which technique and teacher to study with. Some helpful questions to ask and explore are:

·         How long have they been practicing energy healing? How many clients have they worked on?

o   The most skilled and knowledgeable teachers typically have plenty of energy healing experience before they begin teaching. Just because someone is teaching, doesn’t mean they should be. It’s important to know if your teacher has had enough personal experience before they begin teaching. Length of time isn’t always indicative of experience, it can also be good to ask approximately how many clients they’ve worked on.

·         How long have they been teaching?

o   Does it matter to you if they are newer to teaching? Every teacher has to start somewhere, so their newness does not necessarily mean they're inexperienced in Reiki. New teachers can bring fresh new ideas and techniques you might love. 

Or, would you prefer someone who has been teaching for awhile? Experienced teachers are usually gems, but sometimes you can run into one that might lack enthusiasm or that hasn't updated their material in awhile.

·         Who are their teachers?

o   This can give you an idea of their interests, influences, and lineage.

·         Do they have respect for the lineage and other teachers?

o   In a world fueled by the loud, self-centered flashiness, and instant gratification of the ego, honor of our past and the teachers who came before us, is becoming lost. Respect, knowledge, and appreciation for the lineage, as well as for current colleagues, are part of integrity. No one who does this work should act as if they are above or better than anyone else. They should never imply they have all the power.

·         Do they hold any professional certifications or licensures?

o   While certifications can exemplify one’s dedication to learning and may add depth and education to one’s practice, it does not always reflect effectiveness, professionalism, and authenticity at what they do. Be open to the possibility of natural born healers, too.

o   Currently, there are no legal licensure requirements specifically for energy workers. Some energy workers also work in fields that do require licensures, such as: massage therapy, nutrition, clinical therapy, social work, nursing, etc.

·         Do they have any testimonials or success stories to share?

o   Other people’s experiences can give you an idea of what you can expect to learn and/or gain from the teacher.

·         What kind of lifestyle do they live?

o   The energy you feed your body, mind, and spirit with matters (or does it?). Are you looking for a teacher who has a particular spiritual or health-related practice? Would it be beneficial if they were passionate about similar environmental, social, or world issues as you? Getting to know who your teacher is, what they stand for, and how they feed their life can reflect how they teach, what they share, and the type of energy they will bring to your training.

·         Do they offer other healing modalities?

o   Energy healing training varies widely from teacher to teacher. Everyone has their own flavor and vibe. It can be beneficial to know what context your teacher works in and what other healing modalities they have experience with.

·         Do they work with tools such as crystals, oracle cards, essential oils, etc?

o   For some people, using tools like the ones mentioned above, can be distracting and unnecessary, while for others, they add benefit and dimension.  

·         When inquiring about trainings: what levels do they teach, how long between levels is required before you’re able to take the next one, what specifically is taught and covered in class, how long are trainings, do you get supervised practice time, what is their fee, and what does the fee cover?

Answers to some, or all of these questions, will help give you a better idea of the variety of teachers available and which ones you feel a connection with, but even with all of that information, the most important piece of information I urge you to listen to and trust is your intuition. Your inner guide will steer you where to go. Your intuition will lead you to the right teacher and training that is for your highest good, growth, and healing. If you’re feeling unclear or unsure, I suggest prayer and meditation to help guide your way. Prayer will open the line of communication up with God, meditation will give you the opportunity to receive God’s guidance through your inner knowing.

1. Tell me about your personal journey with yoga. Why is it important to you?

I have been practicing yoga for about ten years now, but I still consider myself a beginner. I love yoga because it brings wholeness into our human experience. As we move, we connect with our breath, create space in the body, and a calmness to the mind. It’s a beautiful and accessible practice that has countless benefits. Sharing yoga is important to me because it’s empowering and helps people remember who they really are. Yoga offers a sacred space for self-discovery, healing, and growth. I love that!

2. When did you first begin teaching yoga? What made you transition into a leadership position?

I started teaching yoga asana (postures) about 2.5 years ago. I have taught meditation for close to eight years. I feel very passionate about sharing the things that I love, and so it was a natural evolution for me to begin teaching, as it gave me more opportunities to share my passion and purpose.

3. What makes your classes unique?

My classes are unique in that they emphasize subtle energies such as breath, intuition, and sensation. The movements I guide are done so in a very meditative way. I offer a lot of opportunity for self-inquiry, compassion, and self-care. My intention behind teaching is to offer a sacred space for people to show up exactly as they are, with no expectation or external demands, just space to come home to their true self, so that they can feel more grounded, centered, and whole by the time our class is over.

1) Be Open & Willing

First things first, you must be open and willing to hear the guidance of your intuition for it to begin to guide your way. When you aren’t open and willing, you are energetically blocking it from coming forward. When you welcome your intuition forward, it’s instantly there for you.

2) Pay Attention

Simply paying more attention to how you feel or how your energy shifts is huge! Throughout your day when you are faced with a decision, are in the presence of a certain person, or engaging in an activity, notice how you energetically feel about it. When your intuition is saying, “Yes, this is good! This is the way!” You will feel light, in the flow, and expansive. When your intuition is saying, “Nope, try again…not this way.” You will feel heavier, a halting of energy flow, and constricted. A good motto is: Energy Up or Energy Down? If it’s up that’s a Yes, if it’s down that’s a No.

3) Slow Down

The ego is often the first and loudest to speak, so when we’re living in the fast lane, our ego is usually directing the way. The ego wants to be doing more and going faster. When you take time to slow down throughout your day, you will begin to notice your intuitive nudges more. Slowing down provides space for your soul to surface. Intuition tends to come to us through whispers and nudges. When you move slower, breathe deeper, relax, and find stillness these whispers and nudges are easier to hear. Let’s slow down right now… pause from reading this and take five deep breaths. Invite your body to soften and let go. Welcome yourself into this moment. The more present you are, the clearer your intuition will be.

4) Practice

Each time you practice tuning into your intuition your intuitive muscles grow stronger and stronger. Some suggested ways to practice: 1) Next time you’re watching a sporting event, intuitively choose the winner and the final game score. 2) When you have a list of errands to run for the day, intuitively decide the order in which you accomplish them (this opens you up to all kinds of divine timing and synchronicity!) 3) Hold objects or photos in your hands and see what intuitive impressions you receive. 4) Before answering the phone tune in and see if you can sense who is calling or texting you. The best part of this is that you can get really creative. Have fun and practice using your intuition in all sorts of different ways!

5) Trust

This one is a biggie. It is one of the most common areas of concern that I hear from people working on increasing their intuition, “How do I know if my intuition is right? How do I know it’s ok to trust it? What if I’m wrong?” My answer? Your intuition is always correct and it is always safe to trust it. Why? Because your intuition is the wise and loving voice of your soul.

How do you learn to trust? There’s no short-cut, no secret, no way to teach you to trust –you just have to do it. You have to make the decision and commitment to live from within. Over time you will learn that your intuition is worthy of your trust, but first you have to be willing to let go and surrender to your inner guide.

6) Gratitude

The last key that is going to amp up and solidify the connection to your intuition is gratitude. Gratitude is the rich soil that nurtures and supports any seed you plant in it. Every time you experience your intuition, feel thankful. Every time you feel a nudge here, or a pull there, get grateful for it! When you shower your intuition with gratitude you are lovingly strengthening it, honoring it, and helping it to grow.

You are naturally intuitive, we all are. May your life continue to be guided, inspired, and fulfilling, and may all that you seek be found from within.
